The love affair started in July 1997. I was walking past the local Mazda dealers and inside the showroom was a beautiful merlot red ’96 Triumph Trophy. It had been traded on an MX-5. Being car dealers they weren’t really interested in the bike, and after a bit of haggling the Trophy was mine. The fling with the Trophy lasted for about six months. We were inseparable. In the end my wife gave me an ultimatum - it was either her or the bike. I took the bike.

The affair with the Trophy continued on and off until the winter of ’98. One frosty morning my ex-wife turned up with her solicitor and took the bike… and the house, the car, the dog, the kids and anything else that was near and dear and wasn’t bolted down. I was devastated.

In December 2000 I was despondently flicking through the pages of JUST BIKES and noticed a ’96 Triumph Trophy 1200 in a similarly despondent condition. After a bit of negotiation with David Scobie at Motorcycle Disposals the accident damaged Trophy was mine. She was like the Phantom of the Opera’s face - perfectly formed down one side and deeply scarred down the other after a long slide along the bitumen. The damage was extensive, but fortunately only skin deep.

The next few months involved phones, faxes and e-mails with a ‘Who’s Who’ from the pages of JUST BIKES, and a blossoming relationship with the local postmistress over the C.O.D. counter.

Colleen, the ‘woman in charge’ at Peter Stevens Triumph Australia had all the Triumph part numbers, prices and codes at her fingertips. I found undertakers in the form of Discount Motorcycle Wreckers and Brenton at Show & Go Motorcycles who were able to supply all the body parts to get the Trophy straight, and local Coffs Harbour plastic surgeon Ken Finn at Skin by Finn who transformed the bike from a Tijuana Taxi into Black Beauty. Dan Murdoch from Moto Graphix provided the ‘Triumph’ and custom decals for the bodywork. Franc at Eurobrit Motorcycles was like Michael Hutchence with Kylie Minogue, providing parts, advice and encouragement to corrupt the virginal, but damaged, Trophy into a naked, fire breathing ‘Speed Quatro’. Kelvin at Franks Racing provided assorted custom bits to get the bike into a roadworthy state. Coffs Harbour bike shop Wiseman’s Motorcycles did the final sorting and tuning.

Like any other relationship there’s been blood, sweat, tears, frustration and joy.  We’ve started a new life on the South Coast of NSW.  The bottom line is that bike and rider have been reunited and are back where they’re meant to be - into the twists and turns of the Snowy Mountains Highway, up the Brown Mountain and beyond…

Here is a picture of my 2005 CBR1000RR       purchased from you end of May 2008.

I would like to thank you for your very accurate assessment of this bike over the phone and the prompt and courteous service you provided in this transaction.

It was an easy repair and has come up very well. I have enjoyed the project immensely and now look for another bike to duplicate this success.

Thanks again.
John, Queensland.

I've done a few bikes up I have purchased off you.

9 I think at last count.

This one came out ok. Main drama was the sub frame / exhaust and the alloy frame that carries the front fairing and instrument cluster.

Thanks again, look forward to doing up the next one !

Mark , NSW.

Purchased in April 08 in the original Red/Black/silver.

Now has Gun metal grey rims, matt black frame and Holden VE Voodoo Blue paintwork!

Thanks guys for your help... Rayma

Andrew .

Bought the bike for a great price

Had a fair bit of cosmetic damage but was easily fixable and the end result was worth it J

Will purchase another bike again when the time comes!

Here are a few shots of a 1998 Kawasaki ZX6R bought from Motorcycle Disposals on 22 March 2006.

Almost exactly 12 months later I wheeled out a newly registered "Red-bellied Black" street fighter.

Great performance without the head-down-bum-up sports riding position.  Great value!

Hi Guys

Here are some photos of my 99 Yamaha XVS1100 purchased from Motorcycle Disposals.

Since I purchased this bike the majority of the front end has been replaced , The rear fender has been shaved & lighting has been modified , The rear of the bike has been lowered & The tank and both fenders have been sprayed satin black. There is still some minor things that need to be fixed but I have now put several hundred km's on it and it rides like a dream

This is the second bike I have purchased & repaired from Motorcycle disposals and will definitely keep doing it in the future.

Nigel, Sydney.
